Plan a service

Start with the work, people and data that the VPS must support.

How do I choose between Seed, Grove and Canopy?

Start with a service inventory and the requirements of the application version you intend to run. Seed gives one small service a starting resource budget; Grove leaves more space for a few related components; Canopy provides a larger allocation for a broader workspace. These are allocations, not capacity or performance guarantees. Include the operating system, database, uploads, temporary files and recovery work in your estimate, then measure your own workload.

Compare the resource budgets and use the filled-in service notebook before choosing upgrades.

Will my wiki, calendar or file tools arrive preinstalled?

The catalogue offers VPS resources and selectable Linux images. It does not include an application installation, managed wiki, file-service account or deployment panel. You choose the software, check its requirements and maintain it. A payment reference also does not establish that an operating system or application has been provisioned.

The shared-wiki plan explains the components to prepare; service facts separate catalogue choices from details awaiting confirmation.

Can I run a wiki and a file service on the same VPS?

That can be a useful small-scale arrangement if their combined resource needs, exposure and maintenance schedules fit. Keep their persistent data, application accounts and recovery instructions distinct. They still share the host: a full disk, host outage or disruptive update can affect both. Separate VPS instances may be preferable when services need different operators, isolation or independent maintenance windows.

Use the collective knowledge-hub scenario as a planning example, then add the file service’s storage growth rather than assuming the same budget covers both.

What should I list before moving a self-hosted service?

List its purpose, maintainer and replacement, software versions, database, attachments, configuration, secret-storage references, domain/DNS access, mail delivery and scheduled jobs. Record where each copy lives and which component must return first. An application that starts but has lost its attachments or account permissions has not been fully recovered.

The service-inventory worksheet shows a filled example and questions a second maintainer can use to find missing dependencies.

Offshore, contact and legal requests

A Panama-based operator, a short contact form and clear limits on what those choices mean.

Does a Panama-based operator mean my VPS is in Panama?

No. Hoszen’s operator is based in Panama, while its VPS server choices are Iceland, Sweden and Ireland. Seed, Grove and Canopy are each offered in all three countries, with no location surcharge. A new configuration starts with Iceland selected; you can change it before confirmation.

The selected country applies to your VPS configuration. It does not establish a datacenter, supplier or backup destination, and it does not move all related data into that country. Keep the live server and recovery copies on separate lines in your notes. Compare the three country choices and check the service facts.

What does no-KYC signup mean when buying a Hoszen VPS?

No-KYC signup means no routine identity-document check for standard VPS registration: no identity document, selfie or proof of address. An email is the only account-contact field. Hostname and optional public SSH key are technical configuration choices; you can retain the default hostname and set up access later.

This is a signup policy, not an anonymity guarantee or an exemption from applicable law. Additional information may be required where applicable law requires it. Read the privacy notice and the service terms for the scope of the policy.

What is the contact email used for in this checkout?

Enter one contact email before revealing usable payment instructions. The current interface keeps the confirmed value in session storage for this browser tab. It does not send an email, verify the mailbox, create an account or submit an order. Syntax validation checks the form of the address, not whether you can receive mail there.

You can correct the contact without changing an active quote’s reference, amount, rate or original expiry. While an edit is unconfirmed, payment instructions are hidden until you save it or cancel the edit. Email can identify a person, as can a comment in an optional public SSH key. See what this interface stores.

Does a DMCA notice automatically suspend a VPS or disclose customer data?

A DMCA notice alone does not trigger automatic suspension or disclosure of customer data. Copyright complaints are assessed under applicable law. A notice is not itself a court order, and substantiated complaints may require action.

This policy does not promise to ignore copyright complaints or make infringing material lawful. The required response depends on the request and applicable obligations. Read the acceptable-use policy and the service terms.

Keep data recoverable

Distinguish the live service, a backup copy and a recovery you have actually checked.

Does a container include all of an application’s data?

Do not assume that it does. The running container may rely on separate database storage, mounted volumes, uploaded files, configuration and external services. An image can recreate application code while leaving those dependencies behind. Identify persistent paths and exports using the application’s own documentation, then restore the complete set in an isolated target.

See the dependency inventory and the restore rehearsal for the distinction between starting a process and recovering a usable service.

How do files, versions and deleted items affect storage needs?

The original files are only one part of the budget. Depending on the application and settings, previews, previous versions, trash, indexes and temporary exports can consume additional space. A user-visible deletion may therefore not immediately release the expected capacity. Set and review retention deliberately; do not delete internal application directories merely because they look large.

The file-collection budget separates original data, working overhead and a planned reserve using explicitly hypothetical figures.

What is the difference between server storage and backup storage?

Server storage holds the live operating system, application and data. A backup is a separate recovery copy with an identified time, contents, access method and retention policy. A second directory on the same VPS can be useful for working files, but it shares important host failure risks. Include an independent recovery copy and verify that another maintainer can retrieve and restore it.

Practice the recovery procedure rather than treating a completed copy operation as proof that the service works.

Are backups included, and what does the optional backup setting mean?

The default configuration has no backup option. The catalogue offers daily backups with seven restore points as a recurring option, and its charge receives the same period discount as the VPS. The exact scope, location, retention operation and restore process still require confirmation. Do not assume an application-aware database backup or a recovery-time commitment from the option name alone.

Compare the catalogue facts with your own recovery checklist and keep an independent copy suited to the application.

Can a calendar or wiki export omit important data?

Yes. The format may preserve text or events while omitting attachments, account roles, sharing rules, history, links or application settings. Check what the exact exporter supports, then import a sample into a separate target and compare the results. A readable file is helpful, but it does not establish that another service can reproduce the original behaviour.

The export handover folder includes a coverage checklist and a way to record what must be migrated separately.

How should I choose between adding storage and removing old data?

First identify what is growing and who is entitled to decide its retention. Logs, duplicate exports, versions and original documents call for different actions. Confirm an appropriate recovery copy, use the application’s supported cleanup procedure, and measure the result. Add storage when justified by retained data and expected growth; a larger disk does not fix an unknown retention policy.

Build the storage budget and consider an archive’s limits before changing either capacity or retention.

5 questions

Access and shared care

Make responsibility visible so the service does not depend on one person’s memory.

Should every member have host administrator access?

Usually a member who edits a wiki or uploads documents needs an application account, not the ability to change the host. Application administration and host administration are separate responsibilities too. Grant the narrowest access that allows the agreed work, document any elevated account, and test that ordinary members cannot reach administrative functions.

Map the three access layers before inviting the group.

What changes when a group maintainer leaves?

Transfer ownership of the notebook, domain/DNS access, backup access, service accounts and recurring tasks before the departure where possible. Revoke the departing person’s access and rotate shared credentials they could still know, using each service’s supported process. Have the replacement verify a fresh login and a recovery exercise; possession of an old checklist is not proof that access still works.

See the arrival and departure checklist and the handover folder.

Can a private service still require HTTPS and updates?

Yes. Restricting the audience does not remove the need to protect connections, accounts and software. Decide how members reach the service, how they authenticate and which administrative interfaces remain separate. Keep software current according to its supported release path. A private URL alone is not an access control, and transport encryption does not decide who is authorized to read a document.

Choose the exposure of each service before publishing a port or sharing a link.

How do scheduled jobs and email fit into the service inventory?

They are dependencies with their own owner, timing and failure behaviour. Record what triggers each task, which data it changes, where its result is visible and how overlapping runs or retries are handled. For email, document the chosen delivery service and the account that controls it; no outbound mail service is included by this VPS catalogue.

The background-work register makes quiet failures and restore-time duplicates easier to spot.

How do I prepare a useful support request?

State which service or payment reference is affected, the observed impact, when it started with a timezone, and the last known working state. Include a small redacted error and the checks already completed. Distinguish a network problem from an application or data problem; do not attach an entire database or expose keys, tokens or member information.

Copy the structured support outline. Copying it does not submit a ticket. The checkout contact email is a contact field, not an outgoing-mail service or a published support address; the site does not claim managed application support.

12 questions

Payment and service periods

Keep the resource choice, period total, asset and network together.

What happens when I get payment details?

After you confirm a valid contact email, the page calculates the total for your confirmed configuration, retrieves the market rate and displays an exact crypto amount, the selected network, receiving address and an address-only QR. It creates a local reference in this browser tab. That reference is not a registered server order or an invoice, and the page reports Payment not verified.

Confirming the contact does not verify the mailbox or send an email. Read the payment field notes before using an instruction.

How do the six-month and yearly discounts work?

Pay the full six-month period once to receive 28% off, or the full twelve-month period once to receive 50% off. The reduction covers the VPS and every selected recurring option. Monthly and quarterly periods use the standard monthly subtotal. The configurator shows the price before savings, the amount saved and the final period total; rounding happens once at the final USD-cent total.

See the generated period-price table. These offers do not establish automatic renewal or an additional renewal discount.

Does paying with cryptocurrency make my service anonymous?

No anonymity guarantee follows from paying with cryptocurrency, including Monero. No-KYC signup describes the absence of routine identity-document checks in the standard flow. It does not mean that no personal data exists. Your contact email, an optional SSH-key comment, connection information, application accounts and published content can identify you.

Consider records held by any wallet, exchange or other service you use, and keep your application’s access decisions separate from its payment method. Read what this interface stores and use the service exposure worksheet for the application itself.

Can I choose Monero, and will an existing payment choice be kept?

Yes. Monero (XMR) on the Monero network is supported and is the starting choice for a fresh visit without a restorable payment selection. A valid existing selection or quote keeps its asset, network and original expiry. Monero appears alongside the other supported crypto choices; there is no card or bank-debit checkout.

Confirm your contact email, then check the exact asset, network, amount and address. The QR contains the address only. The payment method does not promise anonymity, and the current page continues to report Payment not verified. Read the Monero and crypto field notes.

What if the market rate cannot be retrieved?

No usable payment instruction is created from a guessed or fallback rate. Check your connection and retry explicitly. The rate, retrieval time, asset and network should be present before using the amount. Do not use an old screenshot to substitute for a newly expired quote.

Keep the local reference and visible error if you need to prepare a payment question.

Does the countdown restart when I reload or return to edit?

No. A quote expires exactly one hour after its creation. Reloading the same tab or returning from an unchanged configuration keeps its ID and original deadline. Correcting only the contact email also preserves the reference, rate, amount and expiry. An actual configuration change, including a different server country, or an asset/network change invalidates the old quote even if the price stays the same.

At expiry, the QR is removed and copying is disabled until you request fresh details. The fixed address itself is not deactivated by the countdown. Check the one-hour payment window separately from the VPS service period.

Does sending payment make a server immediately available?

The current payment page does not detect a transfer, associate it with a protected order or report provisioning. A click, screenshot, entered transaction hash or expired timer cannot make it show a verified payment or a delivered VPS. Inventory and the service arrangements also need confirmation. Keep the payment facts together and obtain the separate service confirmation.

Read the service and reference boundaries.

Does a longer prepaid period change who maintains the software?

No. The discount changes the amount due for the chosen period, not the application-maintenance responsibilities. You still need to plan updates, access reviews, storage growth and recovery. Choose a period that fits the service’s expected use and the group’s ability to look after it; confirm renewal and cancellation terms separately.

Assign the maintenance work before relying on the service for shared information.

Is a WireGuard tunnel a replacement for application login?

No. It controls a network route; application accounts, permissions and updates remain separate. Read the private-route guide.

Where should an encrypted backup recovery password be kept?

In a controlled location separate from the VPS and repository access, with a procedure another authorized person can follow. Read the recovery-key guide.

What should a temporary maintainer be able to change?

Only a documented, bounded scope with a named escalation path. Use the maintainer brief.

Does paying with Monero hide files I publish on a website?

No. Payment does not hide public content, endpoints, logs or obligations. Read payment limits.
