Nextcloud planning

Nextcloud VPS for a small group

Compare files, previews, database, configuration and recovery storage with a VPS plan before you buy.

Is Grove a practical starting point?

Grove is an illustrative starting point: 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 60 GB SSD and 2 TB monthly transfer. It is not a member-count, upload-count or performance promise. Choose an available Linux image and check the application and runtime requirements for the exact version you plan to run.

Nextcloud’s current system requirements describe memory figures per process, not the total RAM of a VPS. The documentation’s version selector identifies 35 as upcoming and 34 as latest at review time; neither establishes an installed or stable image from Hoszen.

Example storage budget

Example only; measure your own service before relying on it: on 60 GB of Grove SSD, reserve 18 GB for files and uploads, 6 GB for previews and thumbnails, 2 GB for database and configuration, 12 GB for the operating system and runtime, and 8 GB for a temporary export workspace. That totals 46 GB, leaving 14 GB to absorb measured growth.

Members are not host administrators.

Give group members application accounts and keep host administration to named maintainers. A private WireGuard route can constrain network reachability, but it does not replace application login or role review. Read the WireGuard planning guide and separate member and administrator access.

Updates and independent recovery

Before an upgrade, record the target version, a recovery copy and an isolated acceptance check. Keep files, database and configuration together for an application restore, plus a separate backup destination and controlled recovery credentials. Map the complete backup set, plan previews and storage and check off-server recovery provide the procedural detail.

Hoszen does not install Nextcloud, manage its accounts, operate its updates or verify a backup. A crypto instruction remains local and payment is not verified until a future server-side process confirms it.
